Ofcom's PSP idea . . . materialised!
Sony beat Ofcom to the punch ... by a considerable distance.
Ofcom Watch | Monday, March 21, 2005
The Sony PSP is being launched on Thursday in the USA (Japan was in December, Europe to follow). It features:
* Portable gaming, of course.
* A new 'UMD disk' to play movies, show photos, play music
* Wi-Fi, initially for multiplayer gaming
This will be a huge hit among business travelers.
Circular, thought-provoking question: Will the Ofcom PSP make products for the Sony PSP?
Do policymakers like Ofcom get these developments or are they 'out of touch' as ELSPA recently said? Do new products like the PSP and last year's ipod cast doubt on Ofcom's ability to predict the future of media, as they tend to do in the PSB review?
