"Wireless Access Point Free" @ Coffee Denn, Mumbles, Swansea

I've been intending to check-out the wireless internet access at the Coffee Denn in Mumbles for sometime...

I just left the Linux UK 05 conference (Swansea University), fancied a drive to catch some sea air in Mumbles, and took the opportunity to see if the wireless connection was up here...

I'd always enjoyed the superb lunch-time specials here, so this is a first for an evening meal- fish special, which has this moment arrived at my table, red fish with an orange glaze...

Here's some interesting facts:

* the host (a former IT professional) was full of enthusiasm about the free wireless access when I enquired...
* I confessed I had established a connection sat outside in the car, but then the SSID disappeared- and as I'd guessed all that was needed was to flip the power switch on for the access point!
* we had an interesting exchange on wi-fi from the early days (when the hot-spots model was touted), and agreed that free wi-fi access was the equivalent of the free newspaper to browse whilst sipping a coffee...
* the host had originally intended setting up an internet cafe here...
* there is no mobile cellular signal available inside the building (see antennae on top in photo:)

* the Coffee Denn occupies the ground floor of the former telehone exchange building in Mumbles (the racks of equipment are still upstairs), just at the foot of the hill near Oystermouth Castle...

Now for dessert, nice moist carrot cake and coffee, plus a skype call to a friend in California ;)
